After I reached out to congratulate Lauren and Austin on their engagement on Instagram, we realized that my upcoming trip to Colorado would be a perfect time for their engagement photos! We planned an incredible shoot at Chautauqua Park Trailhead with a stunning view of the Flatirons in the background. While a snowstorm may have changed our plans for the shoot, we are all absolutely in love with how the photos turned out!

November in Colorado can definitely be a bit unpredictable. But when we heard that a snowstorm was coming in on the day of the engagement session, Lauren and Austin decided to go for it anyway! They bundled up and met me at Chautauqua Park just outside of Boulder, and we had so much fun running around in the snow with their two pups! Although the low-hanging clouds from the storm obscured the view of the Flatirons, they created some gorgeous moody lighting for the shoot. As the snow began to really come down hard we finished up the last shots and headed to the car to thaw out and share a beer. We laughed at how drenched we all were, celebrated their love, and chatted about their future plans. It was an absolutely wonderful day of adventure and intention.

Winter in Boulder doesn’t mess around, so if you aren’t as willing to run around in the snow as Lauren and Austin were, you should definitely talk to your photographer ahead of time about a backup plan. Or for a clearer view of the Flatirons plan your engagement session in the summer months! There are so many trails leading out of Chautauqua Trailhead that can take you up and around the iconic Boulder mountains, you could really make a whole day of it! Pack a picnic, bring your dog, and for those who are experienced, you can even rock climb the face of the mountains!
