Shannon and Ian’s summer wedding at Terrain in Devon Yard was a true garden dream. It was romantic, whimsical, and effortlessly elegant in a way that made everything look like a fine art painting yet also felt like a warm hug.
The day perfectly matched their vision of having a joyful summer evening spent surrounded by the people they love most. Complete with dancing under the stars and celebrating with candlelight, flowers, and lush greenery, the day was the dream they had wished for.
From the moment guests arrived, you could feel the magic woven into the little moments, the soft glow of glass votives, the cheerful palette of bright pastels, and the breezy romance that only a venue like Terrain can create.
Getting married at Terrain feels like stepping into a secret garden. There are vines creeping along brick walls, flickering candles nestled into plant-covered tables, and the kind of layered, botanical details that make everything feel lush and alive. Shannon and Ian leaned all the way into the setting, letting the garden vibe set the tone for a celebration that felt organic, playful, and full of heart.
Shannon wore a classic yet whimsical gown, the Jenny Yoo Holden from Anthropologie, and it had the kind of movement and texture that perfectly matched the setting. It was simple but stunning, a dress you instantly want to twirl in. She paired it with an easy, romantic hairstyle that completed a soft bridal portrait that was perfect for a summer celebration.
Their ceremony was a favorite moment for both of them, not just because of the beautiful setting and gentle breeze in the air, but also because of how personal it felt. As soon as Shannon walked down the aisle and saw Ian’s face, every bit of stress faded into the background.
The couple’s officiant did an incredible job making the experience heartfelt and reflective of who they are as a couple. It was a grounding, joyful pause before the celebration got started.
The design elements the couple decided on were beautiful complements to Terrain’s inherent natural beauty. Shannon had a vision for florals that were dreamy, pastel colors that were bright and full of life.
Terrain’s in-house design team brought that vision to life in ways that felt both fresh and sophisticated. Think pinks, soft yellows, and delicate blues spilling from bud vases and wrapped into bouquets. Nothing overly styled or fussy, just colorful garden beauty in its best form.
One of the most charming touches of the day was their favors: little tubs of caramel popcorn from Johnson’s Popcorn. It’s a favorite beach town treat from Ocean City, NJ, where Shannon and Ian got engaged and spent summers together. It was playful, nostalgic, and so distinctly them. Bonus: they ended up with lots of leftover popcorn to snack on for weeks to come.
Their wedding cake, crafted by Clay’s Bakery, was another standout. Inspired by chinoiserie prints and garden details, it looked like something out of a European tea party dream. And the bridesmaids’ dresses? Each one, a slightly different print, was light, airy, floral, and romantic. The whole aesthetic carried a soft, storybook charm, especially when paired with Terrain’s abundant greenery and the golden late-day light.
As the evening carried on, Terrain glowed with candlelight. Friends and family filled the air with laughter and music, and Shannon and Ian stayed close, holding hands, sneaking kisses, and dancing with the kind of joy that only comes from a day that feels exactly right.
As a photographer, these are the moments you love to capture, so the couple can experience their day from all kinds of perspectives. Not because of how perfectly styled they are (though this one was stunning), but because of the energy: relaxed, present, and full of love.
Shannon and Ian were a dream to work with. From their engagement session to the last dance at the reception, their trust and warmth made everything flow naturally. They were gracious, hilarious, and just so clearly in love.
In a life already full of shared traditions, laughter, and breezy weekends at the beach, this new chapter was so much fun to document. We marked it with vows spoken in a garden and sealed with a dance surrounded by candlelight.
Shannon and Ian, thank you for inviting me into your story and letting me capture the magic of your wedding day. You created something truly special, and I know it’s only the beginning of a beautiful life ahead.
To couples planning their own day: Let your love story lead. Choose details that make you smile. Wear the dress that makes you want to twirl. And if you’re lucky, end the night with popcorn and candlelight.
